Do you wonder how administrators spark an interest in co-teaching among their staff? Do you want to know the kinds of organizational support that administrators provide to facilitate the effective implementation of co-teaching approaches? Are you interested in learning how schools allocate resources to support co-teaching? These and other administrative, training, and logistical issues are discussed in this chapter as we examine five variables—vision, skills, incentives, resources, and action planning—that factor into a formula for facilitating change toward co-teaching (Villa and Thousand 2004). More specifically, this chapter describes ways to (1) build a vision of collaboration in planning and teaching within a school; (2) develop educators’ skills and confidence as co-teachers; (3) create meaningful incentives for people to take the risk to embark on a co-teaching journey; (4) reorganize, schedule, and expand human and other resources for co-teaching; and (5) plan for and take actions designed to get school personnel excited about implementing co-teaching approaches.
